How to Sync Google Calendar with Huawei phone

6 min. readlast update: 10.17.2023

As a result of a ban on trading with the US, Huawei can't preload new release phones with Google apps like Maps and YouTube, the Google Play Store, or Google Assistant. So, syncing Google calendar with a Huawei device has become extremely difficult - but not impossible. In this tutorial, we will teach you how to sync between Gooogle Calendar and Huawei Phone with the help of SyncGene and Outlook.com.

Which Huawei Phones don't have Google services?

The Huawei P40/Lite/Lite E, P40 Pro/Pro+, Mate 40 series, Mate 30 series, Mate Xs, P Smart S, Y6p, Y5p, and Honor 30 series don't have any Google services. They rely on Huawei apps and the App Gallery download store, which doesn't have a huge number of apps at present.

Requirements

For this endeavor you will require:

  • Google(Gmail) account
  • Outlook.com account
  • SyncGene account
  • Huawei phone

The goal of this tutorial is to add an Outlook.com account to your Huawei device, then set up a sync between Google and Outlook.com using SyncGene. This way, your Google calendar will sync events to your Outlook.com account and show up in your Huawei phone.

How to add Outlook app to Huawei Phone

Because the Huawei App Gallery is rather new, it does not offer that many apps at the moment. The Outlook app may not be available on it yet, so to install the app, you need to
download it from Petal Search.

Step 1. In your Huawei phone, locate and open the App Gallery.

Step 2. In the App Gallery, search for "Outlook". It will offer a result from Petal Search for the Microsoft Outlook app.

Step 3. Click the GET button.

Step 4. A warning message will inform you that you're about to leave App Gallery. Click CONTINUE.

Step 5. Click the Download APK button.

Step 6. Wait for the download to finish.

undefined

Step 7. Once the download is complete, run the app and click the INSTALL button.

Step 8. Wait for the installation process to finish.

Step 9. Once the installation is complete, click the OPEN button.

undefined

Step 10. In the Welcome screen, click the ADD ACCOUNT button.

Step 11. Input your Outlook.com email address and click CONTINUE >.

Step 12. Enter the password for your Outlook.com account and click Sign in.

undefined

Step 13. Your Outlook.com may ask you to verify your identity, so select one of the verification options. A text message is easiest if you have your phone number added to your account.

Step 14. Input the last 4 digits of your phone number and click the Send code button.

Step 15. A text message will arrive on your phone containing a code. Input this code and click the Verify button.

Step 16. Finally, when it asks you if you want to add another account - click the MAYBE LATER button and the setup will be complete.

Testing the sync between Outlook.com and Huawei phone

To be certain that your Outlook account is really connected with your Huawei device, you should test it. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1. Visit the Outlook.com page in your computer's browser and login to your account.

Step 2. At the bottom left of the Outlook page, click on the Calendar icon.

undefined

Step 3. In Today's Agenda, create a new event named TEST FROM OUTLOOK.COM and click the Save button.

undefined

A new event will then show up on the calendar.

undefined

Step 4. In your Huawei phone, open the Outlook app.

Step 5. In the Outlook app, click on the Calendar icon.

Step 6. Check if the TEST FROM OUTLOOK.COM event showed up in the calendar.

undefined

If the test event appears on the Huawei phone as well as your online Outlook Calendar, you will know that two sources are connected successfully. You can also try this test in reverse - creating a new event in your phone first then checking Outlook.com in your computer's browser to see if the event appears there.

Setting up sync between Google and Outlook.com in SyncGene

SyncGene will be the principal tool to help get your Google events to Outlook.com and to your Huawei device.

undefined

If you picked the second option, input your Outlook.com account's email address and password. If your Outlook.com account has 2-step verification security enabled, you will need to generate an app-specific password to use instead of your regular password. Step 5. Once the Outlook.com account is added, click ADD SOURCE button.

undefined

Step 12. Finally, click SYNC ALL button and wait for SyncGene to finish running the initial sync.

You can then open the Outlook app on your Huawei device and check the Calendar section. You'll be able to see if events from Google were synced to your Outlook.com Calendar.

undefined

Tips:

  • Make sure your Huawei device always has internet access via WiFi or Mobile Data.
  • By default, SyncGene syncs automatically every 30 minutes. If you want all synced changes immediately, push the SYNC ALL button on the SyncGene page.
  • Connecting your Google and Outlook.com accounts to SyncGene is free of charge. However, for the full features and benefits of using SyncGene, a payable subscription is needed.
